Indoor Triathlon

Indoor TriathlonIndoor Triathlon was Easter Fun
Bay Athletic Club held Alpena’s 3rd Annual Indoor Triathlon on Easter Weekend. Forty-eight area fitness enthusiasts competed in the indoor athletic event.

“I just finished a six-week BAC Corporate Challenge and enjoyed getting to put my newfound fitness to the test,” said participant Jess Kalish. “It was fun to have something to compete in and look forward to next year already.”

The triathlon was comprised of a 20-minute swim at the Plaza Pool, a 15-minute run or walk on a treadmill and 20-minute bike on an indoor spinning bike at Bay Athletic Club. The BAC staff organized the event with the help of a dozen volunteers, led by Stan Mischley, Beth Matzke and Jean Prevo.

The winning team was comprised of: Travis Montie, Cathy Green, Cathy Hendricks and Trina Gray. Second place was Leanne Bloom, Jenny Zitlau, Barb Mahler and Tom Klein. Third place was captured by Stan Mischley, Mark Kinney, Katie Lamp and Vince Call. The overall winning female and male were Trina Gray and Tom Klein.

Each team had four members comprised of at least one male, one female, one person under and one person over the age of 40. Scoring was based on place earned in each event.

Sanborn Elementary School Earns A+ in Challenge
Sixteen employees and spouses from Sanborn Elementary School earned high grades in the six-week fitness and nutrition overhaul. The group lost a total of 211 pounds and 112 inches. In addition to getting leaner, the group got stronger. They added 206 pushups and 153 sit ups to their fitness testing at the end.

Mark Cordes took home top honors, and set BAC records by losing an astonishing 38.4 pounds and 17 inches. Mark is wearing clothes that haven’t fit in more than 10 years! During the course of six weeks, he began regular strength training at BAC, cleaned up his eating habits, swapping waffles for yogurt and eliminated late night snacking. He also took to the great outdoors and logged 301 miles around his property. Mark’s coaches and teammates cheered in awe and excitement over his huge victory.

Jess Kalish finished with an impressive 24.5 pound weight loss and Diana Nelson lost an amazing 21.4 pounds.

All teammates ended the Challenge stronger and felt that it opened their eyes to active, healthy living. They all felt the end was just a new beginning and are excited about continuing their journey.

“I thought everyone at Bay Athletic went out of their way to accommodate us. I enjoyed it and wouldn’t change a thing! Thank you.” Jess Kalish.

“The Challenge is a fun way to feel better about yourself. The staff was very encouraging and made exercise enjoyable. I enjoyed the variety of classes.” Karen Cordes
