It's all about the party...
My daughter Jade was totally prepared to finish her first season of Tball this weekend (meaning, she remembered to wear her favorite necklace, pink sneakers and orange knit purse) . At the end of the game, our BAC team celebrated at a local restaurant. The highlight was undoubtedly the shiney, engraved trophies. She went to sleep that night with it proudly perched on her dresser. Luckily, her little brother Colt (too young to play) was the honorary catcher and therefore caught a trophy of his own. The household was happy. It's all about the party.
Before the Tball game, I participated in Zumba -- an amazing new class at BAC led by instructor extraordinaire, Rexann McConnell. More than 50 BAC members and friends moved and groved to this awesome Latin-inspired dance class. People let loose, cheered and had fun.
It's all about the party.
For me, TurboKick is my favorite way to stay fit. The music moves you to punch, kick and shake the calories away. The energy of the group is untouchable. It's something everyone should experience. This summer, for the third year in a row, we are fortunate to host TurboKick creator, Chalene Johnson -- a national fitness icon from Orange County, California. We're expecting close to 200 people from all over our community and the midwest. Why would people drive hundreds of miles for a fitness class?
It's all about the party. (You can join us. Details below.)
Let fitness be a party,

Healthy Living
-suggestions for an inspired life-
By Kelly Bowlin

I've fallen in love recently. Not with the usual suspects like men or chocolate, but with the best-tasting, healthiest fish out there, Ahi Tuna! I went to a barbecue recently and unexpectedly made a delicious marinade out of items in my spice drawer. After my friends tried to steal my tuna off the grill, I decided to share my recipe with my BAC friends. Get the grill hot!
Blackened Spicy Tuna
Ingredients:
--2 frozen or fresh Ahi Tuna steaks cut to 1 inch thickness, rinsed
Combine the following in a plastic bag:
--1/4 cup Ms. Dash Fiesta Lime
--1 tbsp garlic granules
--1 tbsp ground oregano
--1 tsp fresh black pepper
--1 tsp hot Hungarian paprika
--1/4 cup of olive oil
--2 tbsp of red wine vinegar
Directions:
The mixture should be thick, like a paste when you are finished. Add the tuna to the bag and cover the fish completely. Add 1/4 cup of cold water and set in the fridge for at least an hour for fresh fish. For frozen fish, let the fish thaw in the marinade. Grill until it reaches your desired degree. Enjoy! |

Training Tips
By BAC Head Trainer
Casey Stutzman
I often hear members ask, "How can I get more out of my cardio? I spend lots of time doing cardio but I'm not seeing any results!" The answer is interval training! Studies have shown that interval training can be more effective at reducing body fat than cardio training at a consistent resistance because it keeps your body guessing. Interval training is easy to do and works for all fitness levels.
Here's a sample: start your cardio routine at a lower pace or level than normal, this will be your rest interval. After your "rest" time is up increase your pace or level to a higher than normal intensity, this is your "work" interval. Alternate between the two. Experiment with the intervals, maybe you do a 60 second rest, then a 60 second work, then a 2 minute rest, then a 60 second work...you get the idea. Be creative, and most importantly have fun with it!

BAC's Aqua Fit class is great if you're looking for a low impact workout or something to spice up your routine, or add some fun to your Saturday monring! Aqua Fit uses cardio and strength intervals in deep and shallow water to increase cardiovascular fitness and muscle endurance. Water provides constant resistance and buoyancy that strengthens your muscles and gets your heart rate up, but still cushions your landings. This class will burn calories and tone at the same time! No swimming experience is required for Aqua Fit. Tshirts are welcome over your suit. Join us every Saturday at 8am for Aqua Fit with Casey and Christine!

Community Outreach
Creating an Active Summer
Every Tuesday this summer, BAC gets the chance to interact with some amazing children taking part in Ella White's Summer Camp. The camp focuses on fitness, music and art. BAC keeps the kids moving with relays, obstacle courses and tons of games; like the pretzel game in the picture. It's a blast for everyone involved!
The Boys and Girls Club does so much for our community, and this time BAC got to do something for them. BAC staff demonstrated the importance of living an active life to many children through an afternoon of activity. Relay races and games kept the kids moving and showed them how much fun getting active can be!
