Jade and Colt Gray
A lesson from my kids:
Be comfortable in your own skin.

I just returned home from an AMAZING trip to Washington, D.C. where I had the pleasure of presenting four seminars on the business of fitness and finding your purpose in life. I love connecting with others, sharing my journey and hearing their stories. Asst Manager Tracie Werblow joined me in D.C. for shopping, learning and fun! I'm so lucky to call her a friend and teammate.

I was planning to insert a picture from D.C. along with my top takeaways from the seminar. However, I realized that my message was best illustrated by my kids.

Here is a picture of Jade and Colt washing my car, wearing goggles (be comfortable in your own skin) soaking wet (be bold in your purpose) just to help out me out (serve others).

That's what I know and believe. When you are confident in yourself, believe in your purpose and find ways to make other people's lives better, success awaits you.

If you want to see the notes from my "Top 10 Ways to Live Your Purpose," email me and I'll send them to you, or check out the blog post on my new website.

In the meantime, make a list of what makes YOU unique and celebrate it.

Training Tips

By Head Trainer Casey Stutzman

Casey StutzmanIt's common for people to include a little bit of everything in their workout so they hit each part of the body.  Two to three leg exercises, a couple for the back, a few for the arms, end with some crunches--sound familiar?

Now let me ask you, why did you join a gym?  Most people would say to improve their health and fitness and to be able to perform daily activities with more ease and comfort.  If so, you need to be doing functional training.

Functional training is exercise that helps us in our daily lives and activities.  Instead of training muscles, the focus is on training movement.  For example, typical weightplanes of motion training generally takes place in one plane, but if you want a more balanced, functional workout the body should be moving through all three planes of motion.  Try this in your next workout.  Pick an even amount of exercises that have you moving forward and backward, side to side and rotating.

A functional workout will help with inbalances in the body, but will also hit all the muscle groups and improve joint movements.

Class Spotlight
-get inspired in a group setting-
 By Assistant Manager Tracie Werblow

Tracie WerblowI just got back from a fitness conference in our nation's capital and one of the best classes I attended was entitled Trailblazing Strategies to Burn Calories.  This session, led by Dr. Len Kravitz, reaffirmed that Interval training is the best way to fight fat and max out your calorie burn.  Doing light cardio for 45 to 60 minutes is good for your heart, but doesn't affect your body fat!

Interval training means you're alternatingInterval training from working at a high intensity to a low intensity throughout your workout.  You can find plenty of Interval training opportunities at BAC.  Classes like Fat Blasting Intervals/Circuits, IntensiSHE, Cycling, Beachbody, TurboKick and Zumba are all using an interval format.

In the month of August we are also offering two Boot Camps; our traditional BAC Boot Camp and Beachbody Boot Camp.  These are both great interval training solutions.   Plus, Boot Camps are a great way to kick it up and bust through a fitness plateau.

Kelly cookingI recently hosted a cooking demo for the following recipe and was blown away by how much people like it!  I had fun sharing my passion for cooking and great food with people looking for food that is fast, easy to prepare and healthy.  Based on the feedback from the group, this recipe is exactly that!  They enjoyed the flavors of the smoked paprika and sauteed veggie medley. I hope you do too!
