"Lay down your dreams and walk in them..."
Goose bumps prickled down my arms when I heard this at the Fitness Business Summit. What a beautiful image! What do YOU see?

If your dreams aren't clear, or if people or circumstances are blocking the sun, it's time to act! Self-made multimillionaire, and cool guy Joe Polish suggests this strategy: Fix Yourself. Yes, fix yourself. Joe learned this the hard way decades ago after dropping out of community college, fighting a drug addiction and running a second-rate carpet cleaning business. While down and out, he had the good
Trina, Vito, Joe, Debbie and Lisa
Fitness Business Summit
fortune of spending an afternoon with a real estate mogul who offered the same advice.

If your business is not thriving, your life not fulfilling, stop focusing the frustration outward; just fix yourself!

Fixing yourself involves being open to learn! I have been on a  learning spree the past month. I spent a weekend at the IDEA Fitness Convention in Chicago. I lectured to and interacted with hundreds of fitness enthusiasts nationwide! I just returned from an "unplugged" Fitness Business Summit in Anaheim with my MasterMind friends. The result? I'm fired up about my career, my team, my opportunities and my ability to invoke change! On the flight back, I read the leadership book Tribes by Seth Godin. Love it! I want to lead a tribe of people to change the community (and world!) through fitness. Want to join me? There is lots of room for passionate people and many other leaders in this tribe. The more I learn, the more I want to learn. Do you actively learn? Seek it!

Fixing yourself involves surrounding yourself with amazing people. According to Joe Polish, your income and your attitude is the average sum of the five people you spend the most time with. Who do YOU surround yourself with? Are they pulling you
up, or holding you back with subtle actions or general disinterest? Take charge by choosing to be around proactive, giving people. The folks at DPI in Alpena who lost 392 lbs in the Corporate Fit Challenge tonight felt the power of surrounding themselves with passionate people. They broke boundaries!

Fixing yourself involves taking action. Summit speaker (and great friend) Vito LaFata suggests that most people fail because they give up too soon, or never even leave the starting gate. Is that you? Are you taking action to improve your health, inspire your life? Are you taking action even when it's hard? Even when you're busy, distracted or tired.

Be a leader in your own life! Be open to learning, surround yourself with amazing people (your friends as BAC!) and take action. Embrace the person you see in your dreams and run...

Training Tips
By Head Trainer, Casey Stutzman

All winter long I watched as the runners on ourClick here to email me! treadmills stared, with a longing gaze, out the windows eager to take their passion outdoors, and now the time is here.  But to keep your run enjoyable and injury free it's vital to TAKE CARE OF YOUR FEET.  Here's how you do it:
  • Get in your resistance training.  Hard core runners often neglect the weights because it's not their favorite, but it's important to keep your whole body strong.  Skip traditional weight training and focus on exercises that strengthenBOSU workoutmovement patterns and challenge balance and core stability. I recommend incorporating the BOSU. Try doing a set of shoulder presses while standing on the BOSU. You'll be working your upper body and increasing the strength, stability and integrity of your ankles, knees, hips and feet.
  • Find the best shoe for you.  Supportive running shoes are a must for keeping your feet healthy and feeling good.  Before you purchase, make sure you know what kind of feet you have.  Is your arch high or flat?  Is your arch flexible or rigid?  Do you pronate?  These are all import questions to answer before you decide on a running shoe.  The answers will actually help shorten your search.  Remember, the average running shoe lasts 3 to 6 months.  Make sure you replace your shoes often to keep your feet and joints properly supported.
  • Take time to recover.  Running is a high impact activity that takes a toll on your body.  Try to run no more than every other day.  Your day off running is a great time to do resistance training or cross train on an elliptical or bike.  Also, don't forget to include some stretching and massage in your recovery.  Try rolling a golf ball under the arch of your foot to release tension.

Community Outreach

Northeast Michigan Youngsters got a taste of how much fun healthy living can be during the YoungYoung Artist Workshop Artists Workshop at Art in the Loft.  Bay Athletic Club Zumba and TurboKick instructor Sarah Oskey led two sessions that gave kids, ages 4 to 12, the opportunity to learn some zumba grooves and turbo routines.  Each session ended with a yoga cool down and stretch.

Bay Athletic Club has also worked with Bingham Arts Academy and Sunset Elementary School in April.  Through fun talks, chants and games we teach them the importance of healthy living.

Keep On Dancing
 Purple Glove Dance
Nearly 30 BAC members helped kick-off the "Keep On Dancing" cancer conference with a Zumba salsa routine to "Let's Get Loud."  Participants enjoyed getting the crowd ready for an energy-packed day with their performance.

Click here to email me!I have received rave reviews from a friend about this quick and easy side dish that might just become the star of the meal.  I would bet even children or picky eaters wouldn't mind eating their veggies this way.

Butter Beans: The Other "White Meat"

Ingredients:
-2 cans of drained and rinsed butter beans
-5 strips of turkey bacon, sliced into small pieces
-1/2 sweet onion, sliced
-1 bunch of kale greens, rinsed and trimmed
-1 TBSP white vinegar
-1 TBSP olive oil
-salt and pepper to taste
-your favorite hot sauce

Directions:
In a large, deep skillet, turn the heat up to medium high and add 1 TBSP of olive oil and onion slices.  After onion gets soft, but not Bacon Beansbrown, add the turkey bacon and cook until it crisps slightly.  Add the rinsed beans to the mix and allow it to heat up.  Add the vinegar to deglaze the pan, scraping up the brown bits on the bottom of the skillet.  Toss in the hot sauce and kale greens and cover, until the greens turn bright green and soften.  Add the salt and pepper to taste and enjoy hot as a meal or a great lower carb side dish.
