What do you Live for?
Do you live for Fridays? Do you live for 5 p.m.? If so, commit to living for more.
But how? Let me share. Since our last issue, many people have inquired about my
Top Ten Tips for Living Your DREAM
I've learned these from books, mentors and my own trial and error in life and business. They are each a long discussion over a great cup of coffee, but in a nutshell:
1. Get Purpose: Don't get a job. Get a life! Define your purpose, know it, live it. Mine? Create happier communities. What's yours?
2.Get Tough: Quit trying to explain your dream to others. People who don't have dreams, don't get dreamers! Don't take it personally! Just run your own race.
3. Get in the Game: Stop talking self doubt. Decide that you want to make an impact in whatever you do in life. Put all your cards in. Don't "give it a try." Do it!
4. Get Your Mind Right: You cannot fail, you can only learn and grow. Your actions will follow your beliefs! "The way you do anything, is the way you do everything." I heard that from a successul CEO and it's been on my brain. If your car is a mess, your life is a mess. If you complain about the weather, you complain about your life.
5. Get a Plan: You don't need a million great ideas in life, you just need ONE to execute! Follow it tirelessly. Make it happen.
6. Get Intense: Strenthen your body with fitness and good nutrition. Strengthen your mind with books, inspirational music, seminars, positive people, spiritual growth and motivational quotes.
7. Get Out: If you're bogged down in daily tasks, and never make time to dream big, you'll forever be busy in daily tasks. You must create time to get "out" of your current routine to evaluate what's not working. Turn off the phone, computer and tv. Just you and a notebook. Think about your life and record your observations. Then write down your dreams.
8. Get Organized: Become a master of your own action list. People who lack time, actually lack organization. Create an edge by making a daily list and getting it done. What an accomplishment!
9. Get Back Up: Life is easier to manage when you expect obstacles. Learn to accept them for what they are and move on.
10. Get Ready to GIVE: Build others up, help someone succeed, stop keeping score.

Training Tips
By Head Trainer Casey Stutzman
There are a lot ways to exercise. You can run, bike, do Pilates, use kettlebells or the TRX, swim, go to TurboKick or Zumba, use free weights, and the list goes on. These options are a great thing, but sometimes they can be overwhelming. You may start asking, "What is the right way to train? Which of the above is going to benefit me the most?"
Stop spinning your wheels searching for the answer, I have it. Do a little bit of everything.
Get out of the frame of mind that one exercise is better than another. There is no better or worse, no right or wrong, only different. Variety is the spice of life and that famous phrase carries over into the workout world as well.
Variety keeps muscles alert, the body guessing and the mind from becoming bored. Each exercise has its niche and mixing it up lets you reap the benefits.
The body is a unique machine that is capable of much more than most realize. Keep it challenged with new moves.
If you're looking for some new ideas, hop in some group exercise classes or try small group training to learn some new ways to stay fit! For best results, keep your fitness journey fresh and fun.

Community Outreach
Bay Athletic Club Zumba instructors Rexann McConnell and Sarah Oskey, along with many dedicated Zumba dancers raised over $200 at this years Relay for Life. Dozens of people took a break from the walking to join a LIVE Zumba class. Whether they were veterans or first timers, the smiles and energy were contagious and the mission to end cancer united.
Bay Athletic Club took time to reward hundreds of kids who took part in the AMA-ESD star program which helped children stay focused on improving reading skills over the summer. BAC was able to keep them moving with a fun obstacle course. The kids and their parents loved it.

Healthy Living
-tips for an inspired life-
By Assistant Manager Kelly Bowlin
Confession! I love taco salad, but even though it's a salad it can be very unhealthy. Below I feature a low fat version that features the best taco flavors all mixed together in a lovely mess of cumin, spicy goodness topped with protein packed Greek yogurt. It's a meal that is served at my house at least once a week.
You may have noticed I use nonfat Greek yogurt a lot. That's because one serving (which is strained to remove most of the whey or liquid, making it thicker) contains seven additional grams of protein and half the sodium of regular nonfat yogurt. But you'll find three times the calcium (about one-third of a day's recommended amount) in the regular variety. Plus without the extra liquid, it is a perfect substitute for sour cream (although low-fat sour cream versions aren't that unhealthy, they only have two grams of protein per serving and more fat).
Terrific Taco Salad
Ingredients:
-2 TBSP extra-virgin olive oil
-1 medium onion, chopped (optional)
-1 lbs turkey breakfast sausage
-1 lbs low fat ground turkey
-1/3 cup mild peppers sliced
-1/3 cup jumbo black olives, sliced
-1 15oz can of organic black beans, drained and rinsed
-1 1/2 cups fresh corn kernels, frozen or thawed
-2 TBSP ground cumin
-1 TBSP chili powder or cayenne powder (optional)
-1 1/2 TSP ground oregano
-1 TSP black pepper
-2 TBSP soy sauce
-1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
-2 cups baby Romaine leaves or other spring mix
-1 cup shredded 2% fat cheddar cheese or low fat Feta cheese
-2 1/2 handfuls coarsely crumbled baked tortilla chips
-1/3 cup prepared salsa
-1 1/2 cups of plain Greek yogurt mixed with chopped chives or green onions
-lime wedges for garnish
Directions:
Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add turkey, cover and cook for five minutes, stirring and chopping up turkey occasionally. Add onion, black beans and corn; cook covered until all ingredients are hot, then uncover and start stirring intermittently, until the onion begins to brown, about 5 minutes. Pour in the soy sauce and stir vigorously to coat the meat. Add chili powder, oregano, black pepper and cumin and 3/4 cup of water. Cook, stirring frequently, until all of the liquid has evaporated. Let cool slightly.
Meanwhile, while the taco mixture is cooking, shred the cheese, drain the mild peppers, slice the jumbo black olives, mix the Greek yogurt with chives, cut the lime wedges and toss lettuce in a large bowl with the cilantro. You can either set all the ingredients out on the table and have people build their own salads (always fun with dinner guests) or assemble them in the kitchen. I suggest the following order starting at the bottom of your salad bowl: cracked chips, shredded cheese, taco mixture, mild peppers, black olives, lettuce, Greek yogurt and salsa, all spritzed with a bit of lime juice. This way, you don't go to stir the salad and the chips fly all over your table and the lettuce is bound by the Greek yogurt. Clean and tidy, but oh so delish. |
