Turning Point
A collaborative initiative of Bay Athletic Club and Alpena Regional Medical Center, Turning Point is a unique and effective weight loss program that focuses on helping sedentary people get active, lose weight, improve their health, and embark on the road to better living under the close guidance of a personal trainer and registered dietician.
Turning Point is the first program in northern Michigan to lead participants through a complete lifestyle change, giving them necessary skills to permanently improve their health. Turning Point combines nutrition counseling with moderate exercise sessions to help manage weight, while addressing the behavioral components of a healthy lifestyle transformation.
A word from the presenters:
Judy MacNeill, M.S., Registered Dietitian, Wellness Coordinator, ARMC
"Turning Point is an integrated approach to weight management. It is not a weight loss program – it is a lifestyle change program. The program we designed combines nutrition counseling and small group fitness sessions."
Kelly Bowlin, B.S. in Health Fitness and Preventive and Rehabilitative Programs, Asst. Manager, BAC
"We focus on the behavioral components of weight loss and on giving people the skills they need to enjoy a life free of barriers brought on by excess weight."
One participant described Turning Point as “a perfect blend of moderate exercise, common sense nutritional guidance, and motivational talks to help participants truly embrace a change in lifestyle.”
We seek candidates who want to change their lives, are sedentary, and need to lose at least 10 percent of their body weight (minimum 15 pounds), have a BMI of overweight or obese, and who are cleared for participation by their physician. To qualify, participants must complete a comprehensive health questionnaire. Participants meet for six weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.
